Will Joseph Parker be fighting David Price in his first defence of his WBO title which he recently won?
I originally I said that Hughie Fury could be fighting Joseph Parker for the WBO title as it was said that he was the mandatory challenger for the belt. Now David Price has been thrown in the mix and he has said he has been approached about a possible fight against Parker. Who will Parker fight.
Parker recently won his WBO belt and I’m sure he wants to defend it as soon as he can. He won the belt which was vacant after Tyson Fury vacated it. Parker fought Andy Ruiz in a fight which went the distance and is a historic victory for Parker. But who will he fight next? It could be David Price. Joseph Parker and his team must be interested in a possible fight as they contacted Price. David Price is a good fighter with an impressive record of 21-3 he is capable of beating some big fighters. He is not at then top of the heavyweight division and if he had a fight with someone like AJ or Wilder, I think he would lose and neither champion’s would struggle to win the fight. Price is a good fighter though, the fight for the WBO belt would be huge for him. If he could beat Parker it could lead him onto fights with the best of the best like Joshua and Wilder. David Price has been boxing professionally for 7 years now and has a good amount of experience. But I think if he got in the ring with Parker he would be knocked out.
The fight between Parker and Price could be a good one, if both fighters have good training camps then the pair could trade shots and it may end in a knockout. I do think though that Parker will have more speed and power which will overcome the extra 3 years professional boxing experience. If this fight did happen and it would be a good one to watch, I think Parker would beat Price. Parker has a good jab and as shown against Ruiz he uses the jab and looks for opportunities and then throws big shots. He doesn’t just lunge in and throw lots of big punches. I think, as with Parker vs Hughie Fury, Parker vs Price would be better if in England. I could headline it’s own event but whether it would sell out somewhere like the O2 is a different matter. This fight is just big enough to headline it’s own event because it is too big to be on an undercard of another fight. Who Parker will fight next is still unsure but I think it will be either Hughie Fury or David Price. Both fighters are around the same level and even though Price has confirmed that he was contacted Fury may have also been contacted but not said anything. Whoever Parker fights, the fight he is involved in will be good as he is rising up the ranks and could one day be looking at a possible heavyweight unification bout.
