Let’s talk about Shannon Briggs, Briggs has been around for a long time now and has recently had a lot of beef with David Haye. He wanted to fight Haye and there were rumours that a contract had been signed which said the pair will fight. After Haye announced he would be fighting Tony Bellew next, rumours began to spark that Briggs may be suing Haye for not fighting him. Then Briggs vs Browne for the WBO heavyweight title was announced which had Briggs fired up once again, as at age 45 he would have a world title shot. Then Lucas Browne failed a drugs test and so whether the fight will happen or not is unclear. Briggs should still be a part of the fight for the belt but who he will face is unclear as of yet.
Next is Tony Bellew. Yes, I know what you’re thinking: he’s a cruiserweight. But wait… He is fighting David Haye at heavyweight and there have been rumours that if Bellew wins he may stay at heavyweight. Bellew said that if he beats Haye he will be the prince to king AJ. I think that if Bellew did move up to heavyweight permanently, he could have a chance at some big fights. This is all down to whether he beats Haye and if he decides to return to Cruiserweight to defend his world title.
Joseph Parker is on everyone’s lips at the moment. After his points decision win against Andy Ruiz for the WBA belt on December 10th some have said he may fight Deontay Wilder in a possible unification bout in 2017. I think that Wilder may take this chance as he has been out of the ring for a little while so a chance at winning another title would be beneficial for both fighters. Wilder won his world title in 2015 so having reigned for almost two years and being 37-0 with 36 KO’s he is very experienced and a very solid boxer.
Luis Ortiz is up next and after his win over Dave Allen on the Joshua Molina undercard he demonstrated how good he is. He showed his power and skill with a seventh-round stoppage of Allen, both fighters showed real respect to each other after their bout. Ortiz could be going onto some bigger opponents now with 27-0 he is clearly an experienced and talented fighter. Who will Ortiz aka King Kong fight next: AJ, Fury, Klitschko, Wilder, Parker, Whyte, Chisora? The list goes on, after this win Ortiz will now have a lot more options as to who he will fight next.
Part three will be released tomorrow which will feature boxers such as Whyte, Chisora and Hughie Fury.
